Business Summit this week!

Business Summit Details:

Written by Corey Cunningham; edited by Dr. Cathleen Jones

The 2020 Robert Morris University Business Summit will be taking place this month on dates February 19th and 20th. The Business Summit includes many notable speakers, networking opportunities, future internship and job experience, LinkedIn connections, successful Robert Morris alumni, SET credit, and refreshments. The summit will be taking place in the UPMC event center for the first time. The Business Summit is one of the most unique events at Robert Morris because it is one of the only events that brings together the whole Business School. The summit includes opportunities for any business major.

What can be expected at the Summit:

The 2020 Robert Morris University business summit is sure to have a multitude of talented and successful people. The schedule of speakers for the business summit should not disappoint. Last year's summit, which took place in April, featured many talented speakers. The list of speakers included: Joel Burstein, CEO of Keep it Simple Training and Development, Margaret R. Smith, CMA of Bombardier incorporated, Gus Frerotte, who was a former NFL quarterback, and many more. Gus Frerotte was excellent at last year’s summit when he lead the discussion of "The Importance of Communication and Team work on Building a Personal and Professional Brand in Business."

Personal Summit Experience:

Last April I attended the Business Summit for the first and I did not know what to expect. I watched multiple speakers, had refreshments, and overall had a great experience. However, the one speaker that stood out to me was Philip H. Bartels. Mr. Bartels is the CFA of Hunter Associates, which is an independent wealth management group in Pittsburgh. Mr. Bartel’s story did not intrigue me because of his current position; however, he did intrigue with the story that got him to where he is today. Mr. Bartels story included a lot of travel and many different jobs before he settled in with Hunter Associates.

AMA Career Fair

Written by Francesco Petrola-Prata and Arielle Pierce.

Edited by Dr. Cathleen Jones.

Calling all Marketing and Business students! Robert Morris University presents the American Marketing Association Career Fair. It’s the perfect place for seniors to attend who are searching for jobs or potential internships. Juniors, this career fair is perfect for you to start searching for places you want to intern with and can possibly turn into your job one day! Sophomores and Freshman, we didn’t forget about you! A career fair is the perfect place to start getting your name out there and to start exploring your interests! Ask questions, don’t be shy!

The Career Fair is being held on Tuesday, February 18th 9:00am-10:00am for AMA Members only, and 10:00am-1:00pm for all majors. It is being held at the UPMC Events Center here on campus! Be sure to dress professionally and bring your resumes!

Don’t miss your chance to start getting your name out and meeting potential employers. It’s never too early or too late. There will be many amazing companies here eager to meet you! Career fairs are a good place to start practicing talking to businesses, if you have never had any work experience. Don’t be shy to ask questions, get as involved as you can! Employers love meeting new people who are truly invested and interested in coming to work at their company. When meeting these employers for the first time you want to make yourself stand out and memorable! Make sure you let them know a lot about yourself and your interests! Include a fact about yourself that is unique so this employer won’t forget you! Most importantly stay true to yourself. Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not.

Your first impression matters and that is who you will be remembered as. Employers understand that you’re still in college at the moment and that you’re still getting comfortable with this process. There’s no major pressure on you and it’s important to not let your nerves get the best of you. Be yourself!

Modern and engaging companies such as American Eagle Outfitters will be attending this career fair! American Eagle has tons of job opportunities from fashion marketing to finance. They’re a Pittsburgh based company so what better place to start than right here in the city! Don’t be scared to ask about all of their internship and job opportunities! Other companies such as MaryKay Cosmetics, ADP, Northwestern Mutual, and more will be at the fair.

Another notable company that will be attending this year's AMA career fair is Enterprise rent-a-car. They have several offices around the Pittsburgh area including the Pittsburgh International Airport. This makes up a small part of the more than 7,600 locations that Enterprise has in the United States, Canada, and 83 other countries. Needless to say, that they are in a great need for employees to staff these locations as well as work at corporate offices marketing the Enterprise brand as the Superior car rental provider.

This career fair is an amazing opportunity for all majors, not just those specializing in marketing.  Hundreds of possible jobs will be offered on February 18th and it would be a huge mistake if anybody missed out on this. College gives us many tools for us to make something of ourselves, but in order for these tools to be useful, we need to first need to put in the effort of coming to events such as this one. You could possibly find the lifelong career you always dreamed of having, all you have to do is take that first step.
