Amazing Report on the AMA Collegiate Conference in New Orleans

Greetings from New Orleans!

This was my first conference as the AMA Faculty Advisor and was delighted with the participation of the students:

Nina Guenther (sophomore)

Zack Kutchma (freshman)

Nicolette McDonough (senior)

Anthony Puglisi (junior)

Keith Tate (sophomore)

Abigail Watkins (sophomore)

They engaged in the following activities:

Four hour "AMA Digital Marketing Bootcamp"

Onsite "Marketing Strategy Competition”

"Pitch Perfect" sales competition

Four hour "Marketplace Simulations Competition."

and many other activities. 

While they did not place in any of the competitive events I feel they have gained valuable experience as we look forward.

Capping off the conference was the Awards Banquet.  I am absolutely delighted that the presenter stunned the table when he announced the RMU AMA chapter is a Top 25 Chapter of 2018-19!  The students didn't think the chapter was winning anything this year (not sure why as I thought they had done a fair amount of recognizable activities) so the look on their faces was priceless.  Fortunately, the president (Nina) recovered quickly and dashed up to the front of the room to claim their plaque.  (Picture attached.)  Please congratulate them on their chapter success if you see them in class or on campus!

A growing business intelligence software company is looking to hire an intern for their Marketing and Sales team. This would be a great opportunity for a college student looking to gain hands on experience with sales and marketing.
Some of the daily tasks may include:
• CRM (Hubspot) management and analysis
• Research competition and market trends
• Social Media management
• Assist the sales team in follow up items for prospects and new leads
• Potential opportunity to be involved in Product Demonstrations
• Assist in the event planning and marketing for a trade show in August

Congratulations to the AMA, under the leadership of Dr. Steve Clinton, as four of our students placed second in the AMA Regional Case Competition sponsored by New York Life.

Could your mock interview become a real interview?

Could your mock interview become a real interview? Professionals coming from FedEx this Wednesday and Friday particularly requested Business students and mentioned Marketing, Finance/Accounting, HR, and general business.

The practice interview program gives students a chance to hone their interview skills by receiving honest feedback about the way they dress (although professional dress is not required, business casual is recommended), how they ask and answer questions, their handshake, eye contact, and other subtle (and not-so-subtle) behaviors that may be impacting how potential employers perceive them. This program has benefited many students and, although not the purpose for the program, some students have received offers for jobs and benefits as a result of these mock interviews.

Students sign up on HANDSHAKE under the Jobs tab, then selecting On-Campus Interviews. They must upload a resume in Handshake in order to sign up.
